Morocco’s international has attracted attention at the World Cup with a special record that reflects the great influence of the diaspora on the country’s football.<\/p>\n

In the match against Brazil, which ended with a score of 1-1, the selector Mohamed Ouahbi activated a starting line-up where ten of the eleven footballers were born outside Morocco. Only midfielder Azzedine Ounahi, born in Casablanca, was the only footballer born in the country.<\/p>\n

Other players in the squad come from countries as diverse as France, Spain, Belgium, the Netherlands and Canada, reflecting the strong connection of the Moroccan diaspora with the national team.<\/p>\n

This phenomenon is the result of years of investment and talent development in European academies, where many footballers of Moroccan origin have trained professionally before to choose to represent their family’s country of origin.<\/p>\n

Despite most of the players being born abroad, they put in a top-level performance against Brazil, securing an important point and proving that sporting identity goes beyond the country of origin.<\/p>\n
