This comes from the latest report of the European Union Agency for Medicines (EUDA), which analyzes the levels of cocaine residues found in the wastewater of European cities.

According to the data, the Spanish city of Lleida leads in Europe for the amount of cocaine residues detected in wastewater, with 1,405 milligrams per 1,000 inhabitants. It is followed by Antwerp in Belgium, Granada in Spain, Amsterdam in the Netherlands, as well as Liège and Brussels in Belgium.

The report also shows that the biggest increases in consumption were recorded in Barcelona and Lleida. Barcelona recorded an increase of 185 percent, while Lleida 125 percent compared to previous measurement periods. Significant increases have also been observed in Slovenia and Denmark.

On the other hand, a survey shows that Norway and the Netherlands have the highest percentage of adults who have used cocaine in the past 12 months. Consumption is even higher among young people in the 15-34 age group.

In terms of the fight against drug trafficking, Spain reported the largest amount of cocaine seized in 2024, with 124 tons, while France ranks second with 53.5 tons. However, experts warn that the decrease in seizures in some countries does not necessarily mean a decrease in traffic, as criminal groups are changing routes and methods of transport.

One of the most important developments was the international operation coordinated by Europol against the so-called “Atlantic Cocaine Highway”, an important traffic corridor in the Atlantic. The operation led to the seizure of 11 tons of cocaine, 8.5 tons of cannabis, the arrest of 54 people and the seizure of eight vessels.

The report highlights that the European cocaine market remains very active, while competition between criminal groups continues to fuel violence and illegal activities in several countries on the continent.

Source: prizrenpost

The use of cocaine in Europe is increasing in some regions, with Spain emerging as one of the main points of consumption and trafficking of this drug.
