The time spent on social media and the development of eating disorders, therefore, appear to be strongly linked,” explains Dalla Ragione.

The expert then emphasized that self-harm is “significantly increased” in eating disorders, accounting for 60% of cases. In addition, 30% of those with eating disorders are minors, confirming the decreasing age trend, and a significant increase in the male gender has been reported.

“These disorders no longer affect only women and 20% of patients between the ages of 12 and 17 are male,” she points out.

”The reason is related to the change in the relationship with their bodies among young people, which has become a a source of concern for them as well. Between 2020 and 2021, access to community and hospital treatment settings for young people increased fourfold. Quarantine has likely brought to light a more hidden suffering, that of men,” she says.

Source: prizrenpost

Social media represents a very powerful factor in the spread of eating disorders, writes rainews.it.
