Almost half of Kosovars believe that their country can become a member of the EU within the next five years, 3 percent of the population believe that this will never happen, while 26 percent believe that the main obstacle to integration is the lack of political will in Kosovo.<\/p>\n
These are just three of the many interesting data that emerged from the findings of the 2026 annual survey for Kosovo, on perceptions of the European Union, carried out as part of the WeBalkans program.<\/p>\n
According to these measurements, support for the membership of the newest country in the Balkans, in the EU, remains high, with 83 percent of citizens declaring that they support the country’s European integration, while 85 percent believe that membership would bring more advantages than disadvantages.<\/p>\n
According to the report, 68 percent of citizens say that they feel well-informed or somewhat informed about the integration process European Union of Kosovo.<\/p>\n
While 48 percent of respondents believe that Kosovo can become a member of the EU within the next five years, the rest of 32 percent think that this will happen within the period of five to 15 years. Only 3 percent estimate that Kosovo will never become part of the European Union.<\/p>\n
The survey shows that the main benefit that citizens associate with EU membership is the improvement of Kosovo’s image in the international arena, mentioned by 49 percent of respondents. Followed by peace and security for Kosovo and the region with 43 percent, as well as a better future for children with 42 percent.<\/p>\n
As for the main obstacles to European integration, 40 percent of citizens consider widespread corruption as the biggest challenge. Next are the lack of interest of the EU in having Kosovo as a member with 27 percent and the lack of political will in Kosovo with 26 percent.<\/p>\n
The report also shows a high level of trust in the European Union. About 83 percent of citizens declare that they trust the EU, while 64 percent have a positive image of the European Union.<\/p>\n
Regarding financial support, 97 percent of citizens are aware that the European Union finances projects in Kosovo, while 65 percent consider this support effective.<\/p>\n
According to the respondents, the areas where the EU should play a greater role in Kosovo are economic development and trade, the health system, and the fight against corruption and strengthening the rule of law.<\/p>\n
The United States and NATO remain the most trusted institutions in Kosovo, according to a survey published within the WeBalkans program for 2026.<\/p>\n
According to the data, 88 percent of citizens declare that they trust the United States of America and the same amount in NATO, ranking them at the top of the list of the most reliable institutions and international partners for Kosovo.<\/p>\n
In the country the European Union ranks third, in which 83 percent of citizens express their trust. The World Bank follows with 82 percent and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) with 80 percent.<\/p>\n
This list also includes Turkey, which enjoys the trust of 78 percent of the surveyed Kosovars.<\/p>\n
