Meanwhile, this figure increased to 16.8% in children of mothers with poorer cardiovascular health.

According to the study, women with poor heart health were 62 percent more likely to have children with developmental delays.

“Pregnancy is not like Las Vegas, where what happens there stays there. What happens during pregnancy has long-term consequences not only for the mother, but also for the child,” said Dr. Evelina Grayver, director of women’s heart health at Northwell Health

According to her, the health of the mother’s heart affects how the placenta is supplied with blood, oxygen and nutrients, which are essential for the development of the fetus’s brain and body.

The study found that poorer cardiovascular health was associated with delays in communication, movement, problem solving and social skills, while the greatest impact was seen on personal and social skills.

“Optimizing “heart health before and during pregnancy can be one of the earliest opportunities we have to positively influence the long-term health of the mother and child,” said Grayver.

Experts emphasize that most cardiovascular diseases can be prevented.

“Cardiology is quite simple. About 80 percent of heart diseases can be prevented, while only 20 percent are related to genetic factors,” said the doctor.

To improve health of the heart, experts recommend healthy food, regular physical activity, quality sleep, keeping weight, blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar under control, as well as avoiding smoking.

Source: prizrenpost

A new study suggests that a mother’s heart health before and during pregnancy may play an important role in a child’s development, The New York Post reported.
