The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora (MPJD) has announced that the Liaison Office of the Republic of Kosovo in Serbia has immediately informed the diplomatic missions of the Quint countries accredited in Belgrade, as well as the Delegation of the European Union in Serbia, about the arrest of the Kosovar Osman Selmani and the procedures initiated against him by the Serbian authorities. engagement and exercise of their influence on the Serbian authorities for the fair handling of the case and its release.<\/p>\n

“The arrests of Kosovo citizens in Serbia, under the claims of committing war crimes against the non-Albanian population during the war in Kosovo in 1999, are similar to previous cases that have been strongly opposed, evaluating them as arbitrary actions, without a stable legal basis and with a political background”, says the response of <\/p>\n

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora is said to remain in contact with local institutions and international partners and constantly calls on them to increase pressure on the authorities of Serbia, which, as noted, “continues the practice of ill-treatment and arrest of citizens of the Republic of Kosovo, thus violating international norms and standards for human rights”.<\/p>\n

It is also said that after confirming the case, the Liaison Office has addressed an official request to the Government of Serbia, through the Liaison Office of Serbia in Kosovo, requesting complete information regarding the arrest, the reasons for the detention, the treatment by the police authorities, the location of the detention and all relevant data for the case.<\/p>\n

At the same time, it is said that the official request for the permission to visit Ambassador Jetish Jashari to Mr. Selmani in the detention center.<\/p>\n

Selmani was arrested on Wednesday at the border point in Mutivoda, on suspicion of “war crimes”.<\/p>\n

Serbia claims that on June 14, 1999 in the neighborhood of “Sofalia” in Pristina, he, in cooperation with some members of the Kosovo Liberation Army, took the lives of the couple Vladimir and Persa Stanisavljevic.<\/p>\n

But the son of Slemanit, Arbeni, said that at the time when the crime is alleged to have been committed, the whole family was in Macedonia, after being expelled by the Serbian forces.<\/p>\n
