In this context, the EP condemns the inciting rhetoric of the Government of Serbia towards the member states that did not support the opening of Chapter 3.

The EP emphasizes that the credibility of the enlargement process must be maintained through the continuous implementation of strict and fair conditions, while simultaneously recognizing reform efforts when they exist.

The resolution recalls that Serbia declares that EU membership is its strategic objective, but notes that the expressed commitments are often not have been accompanied by concrete steps. The document states that this inconsistency requires a clear clarification of Serbia’s European orientation and calls on the authorities to demonstrate with concrete actions a lasting commitment to European values and standards, as well as consistency in the commitment to EU membership.

“The European Parliament reiterates that the Western Balkans, in the current geopolitical context, is of strategic importance for the security and stability of the EU as a whole. It emphasizes that Serbia, due to its size and position geopolitical, has a direct impact on the overall stability of the region and condemns its efforts to create spheres of influence and activities that violate the sovereignty of neighboring states”, the resolution says.

The EP calls on Serbia to clearly and consistently demonstrate its geopolitical orientation towards the European Union, including full alignment with the EU’s foreign and security policy, especially with the restrictive measures imposed due to Russian aggression against Ukraine.

At the same time, the EP expresses concern that Serbia has not yet fully aligned with this policy and expresses regret that its level of harmonization is among the lowest among all candidate countries for membership in the European bloc.

In this context, the resolution reiterates that full alignment is an indisputable condition for membership. The European Parliament says it welcomes Serbia’s recent alignment with some EU Council decisions, but emphasizes that a selective alignment is not enough.

The EP also regrets the continuation of close relations and the deepening of Serbia’s partnership with Russia, assessing that this raises doubts about its strategic orientation and damages the credibility of the European path.

The resolution emphasizes that Serbia’s European future requires a choice. clear strategic and that the policy of balancing between the European Union and other geopolitical actors is not in line with the political trust expected from a candidate country.

The authorities in Belgrade are called upon to refrain from public messages and actions that are contrary to the main positions of the EU’s foreign and security policy.

European MPs express concern about Russian and Chinese investments in Serbia and their growing influence on political and economic processes in region. It also condemns foreign Russian intervention in Serbia, recalling that Serbia is actively used as a regional platform for the spread of disinformation throughout the Western Balkans.

“The European Parliament also expresses concern about the continuation of Serbia’s military strengthening, which is accompanied by increasingly harsh rhetoric towards neighboring countries, the deepening of security and defense cooperation with China, including the joint exercises of special units, the expansion of strategic agreements and the presence in growth of Chinese security and surveillance technologies”.

“Strongly condemns the recent purchase of Chinese air-to-ground ballistic missiles CM-400AKG, warning that such weaponry undermines the regional security balance and good neighborly relations with NATO member countries. Such a purchase contradicts the EU’s common foreign and security policy and raises serious questions about Serbia’s geopolitical orientation”. the resolution states.

The European Parliament also condemns the fact that Serbia has become a base for the activities of Russian intelligence services in Europe and expresses great concern over credible reports that it has become an important operational center for Russia’s hybrid and destabilizing activities, including organizing provocations, inciting ethnic and religious tensions in EU member states, as well as training and sending individuals for destabilizing actions in Europe and in the regions. neighbors.

Serbian authorities are called upon to urgently investigate, prevent and prosecute such activities.

Source: prizrenpost

The European Parliament adopted a resolution for Serbia, in which it assesses that the country is stalling on the path to membership in the European Union due to the deterioration in the field of the rule of law, democracy and alignment with the common foreign and security policy of the European bloc.
