Today about 500 species of sharks are known, distributed in almost all the world’s oceans. After hundreds of millions of years of evolution, they have developed characteristics that defy the common perception of them as predators driven only by instinct.<\/p>\n
Studies have shown that these creatures are more intelligent than previously thought. They can distinguish different shapes, patterns and colors, while some experiments have shown that they are also able to make simple mathematical distinctions, understanding the difference between different quantities.<\/p>\n
A study conducted by researchers from Macquarie University in Australia revealed an unusual behavior in Port Jackson sharks. During the experiment, they learned to associate jazz music with food, but failed to make the same connection with classical music.<\/p>\n

Some species of sharks, including bull and hammerhead sharks, develop in the mother’s womb and are fed through an umbilical cord, a process similar to that of humans.<\/p>\n

Fossil evidence shows that the ancestors of sharks existed about 450 million years ago, long before the appearance of trees, dinosaurs and other formations known in the history of the Earth.<\/p>\n
Although the evolutionary paths of humans and sharks have separated by hundreds of millions of years. first, scientists point out that both species are part of the same long history of life on the planet.<\/p>\n
