Prime Minister elect Edi Rama on Wednesday presented the structure of his new government, which he said will have 19 ministries and more ‘women than Albania has seen in its history’.<\/p>\n

Rama said that the reconstruction of the cabinet “has been based on a detailed analysis of the current government and all its branches, which in our opinion contains parasitcal structures and require cuts”.<\/p>\n

The new cabinet will have 19 ministries, four more than the outgoing government of Prime Minister Sali Berisha, he noted.<\/p>\n

Rama\u2019s Socialist-led alliance won a landslide victory in the June 23 parliamentary election, winning 84 of the 140 seats in parliament.<\/p>\n

Rama said that the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Energy will be split in two: a Ministry of Economy, Trade and Entrepreneurship, and a Ministry of Energy and Industry.<\/p>\n

Transport and Public Works will also be divided into Transport and Development of Infrastructure, and Urban Development and Tourism.<\/p>\n

The Ministry of Culture will also see changes, stripped of its competencies over youth and sports, which will be transferred respectively to the Labour and Education ministries.<\/p>\n

The ministries of Finance, Interior, Defence, Foreign Affairs, Innovation and European Integration will remain the same, though each will undergo a restructuring of their departments.<\/p>\n

The cabinet will also include two new ministries for local government and relations with parliament.<\/p>\n

Rama said the make-up of the new government will be revealed at the start of next month.<\/p>\n
