Chinese President Xi Jinping said Taiwan’s reunification with China is “unstoppable,” a day after Beijing concluded two days of military exercises around the island, Anadolu reports.<\/p>\n
“We Chinese on both sides of the Taiwan Strait share a bond of blood and kinship. The reunification of our motherland, a trend of the times, is unstoppable,” Xi said in his New Year’s speech.<\/p>\n
Beijing launched on Monday the two-day “Mission of Justice 2025” joint military exercises, days after the US approved a record arms sale worth more than $11 billion to Taipei.<\/p>\n
China considers Taiwan a “breakaway province”, while Taipei insists on its independence since 1949.<\/p>\n
“The world today is experiencing both change and turmoil, and some regions are still engulfed in war,” he said. Xi.<\/p>\n
\u201cChina always stands on the right side of history and is willing to work with all countries to advance world peace and development and build a community with a shared future for mankind,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

As 2025 marks the end of the 14th Five-Year Plan for economic and social development, China has met the set goals in the plan and has made “steady progress in the new journey of Chinese modernization,” Xi said.<\/p>\n
He pointed out that China’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is expected to reach 140 trillion yuan ($20.01 trillion) in 2025.<\/p>\n
“Our economic power, scientific and technological capabilities, defense capabilities and joint national power have reached new heights,” he said. he.<\/p>\n
Xi also talked about the country’s technological developments, saying: \u201cMany big models of artificial intelligence are competing in a race for leadership, and advances have been made in our chip research and development.\u201d<\/p>\n
He also mentioned the Fujian, the country’s first aircraft carrier equipped with an electromagnetic catapult system, which entered service this year, as well as the development of humanoid robots and drones.<\/p>\n
\u201c all these have turned China into one of the economies with the fastest pace of growth in innovation capabilities,” he said.<\/p>\n
In 2026, at the start of the 15th Five-Year Plan, he said China “must focus on our goals and tasks, increase confidence and build momentum to move forward.”<\/p>\n
“We must take confident steps to promote high-quality development, let us further deepen reform and full opening-up, bring prosperity to all, and write a new chapter in the history of the Chinese miracle,” Xi added.<\/p>\n
