Orthodox Christian believers in North Macedonia today celebrate Buzmi, one day before Christmas, reports Anadolu.<\/p>\n

The central manifestation was held in the cathedral of the Macedonian Orthodox Church (KOM) “Saint Klimenti of Ohrid” in Skopje. The demonstration began with the hymn of Buzmi and the raising of the flag of Buzmi.<\/p>\n

The Archbishop of the Orthodox Church of North Macedonia, Stefani, in his speech wished the believers a happy holiday.<\/p>\n

Citizens participated in the demonstration, who prayed and burned candles while the priests of the church consecrated the branches of the Buzmi tree.<\/p>\n

After the branches were consecrated Buzmit, they were distributed to the faithful. The cake with the coin inside was also broken.<\/p>\n

On the night of Buzmi’s holiday, a branch of buzmi is placed in the fire, which is considered as healthy wood so that all members of the family are healthy.<\/p>\n

Most of the Orthodox churches around the world use the Julian calendar, established under the rule of Julius Caesar in 45 BC. and have not accepted the Gregorian calendar which was founded in 1582 by the Roman Pope Gregory.<\/p>\n

The difference between the two calendars is 13 days, therefore Orthodox believers celebrate Christmas on January 7, and not on December 25.<\/p>\n
