The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, has commemorated the 28th anniversary of the Epic of the Liberation Army of Kosovo, emphasizing the historical importance of the resistance of the Adem Jashari family in Prekaz.
At the solemn meeting of the Government of Kosovo, Kurti said that the sacrifice of the Jashari family represents a decisive moment in the national consciousness and in the journey of the people of Kosovo towards freedom and independence.
“The epic of KLA represents a decisive turning point in our national consciousness and in our popular unity towards freedom and independence. In Prekaz on March 5, 6 and 7, 1998, there was such an unequal confrontation, but with such extraordinary significance. In the annals of European history, one cannot find a single case where a freedom-loving family resists a police and occupier state.” Kurti.
He added that in modern European history it is rare to find such a case of resistance, where a family faces an entire state military apparatus for three days in a row.
“Even though the Jashari family was surrounded by thousands of forces equipped with heavy machinery, they fought and stayed until the end, giving their lives for the freedom of all of us,” said the prime minister.
According to him, for the Jashari family there was only one essential value – freedom.
“Men, women and children decided not to be separated from Adem Jashari. They stayed together, out of the conviction that freedom requires sacrifice, which starts from oneself”, emphasized Kurti.
As part of the activities to commemorate the KLA Epic, a solemn session is expected to be held today in the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo, which starts at 10:00.
