In the Romanian capital, Bucharest, the 10th and last edition of the Black Sea and Balkan Security Forum started today, reports Anadolu.

The event, organized by the New Strategy Center, a Romanian think tank founded in 2015, brings together various active and former officials as well as experts and numerous representatives from academic and business circles, over the next two days for a series substantive discussions.

Composed of 46 panels to discuss a number of topics related to the Black Sea and Balkan region, including security, energy, defense and technology, the forum is held under the patronage of Romanian President Nicusor Dan.

The forum takes place on the sidelines of the recent Bucharest Summit of the Nine, an organization that includes Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania and Slovakia, which will also take place in Bucharest on Wednesday.

The upcoming summit is one of four main topics to be addressed during the panel discussions, the other three being the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war, transatlantic cooperation and the technological challenges generated by Artificial Intelligence.

According to a concept and description of the panel on the event website, it will seek to understand rather the security needs of the regional states, strategic corridors of connection and connections between the Arctic, the Baltic Sea, the Black Sea and the Mediterranean Sea, among others.

Speaking at the opening panel session of the event, Romanian President Dan appreciated and thanked the event’s efforts to find and propose solutions to the challenges expressed. He said that Romania at the international level is consolidating its position and trying to increase security in the Black Sea region, NATO’s eastern flank and the Western Balkans. “It also tries to bring Moldova, Ukraine, the Western Balkans and the EU together,” Dan added.

He argued that they are experiencing times with multiple challenges and that in this context, like-minded states should cooperate in these circumstances. Dan went on to say that this is the aim of the discussions at the Bucharest Summit and will be the main topic of the NATO summit in the Turkish capital, Ankara, in July.

“I am convinced that we will be able to express our solidarity in all these forums and we will be able to remain objective. This means investing in defense, it means interaction and an effective transatlantic partnership”, the president stressed. Romanian.
