KESCO: From April 1, 2026, the second phase of the exit of businesses to the open energy market begins

KESCO has announced that from April 1, 2026, the second phase of the exit of commercial consumers to the open electricity market will begin.

According to the company’s announcement, in accordance with the Law on Electricity and at the request of the Energy Regulatory Office (ZrE), businesses with more than 50 employees or with an annual turnover of more than 10 million euros will no longer be supplied with regulated tariffs within the service universal, but will be obliged to choose their own supplier in the open market.

“From April 1, 2026, the second phase of the exit of commercial customers to the open market will continue”, says KESCO’s announcement.

The company emphasizes that, based on the official data of the Tax Administration of Kosovo, a number of businesses no longer meet the criteria for supply within the universal service.

“Starting from April 1, 2026, KESCO, in the role of Universal Service Provider, will not be able to supply these businesses with regulated rates,” the announcement further states.

The affected businesses must choose a licensed supplier on the open market by April 1, 2026 and start the procedure to change the supplier at least 21 working days before the new contract comes into force.

on the contrary, the company warns that from April 1 they will be temporarily supplied by the Supplier of Last Chance for a period of up to 60 days.

“In the absence of a contract within this period, the supply of electricity will be interrupted in accordance with the legislation in force”, it is emphasized in the announcement.

Also, KESCO has informed that businesses that are self-consumers (prosumers) from this date will no longer be part of the scheme with regulated tariffs, while the treatment of the energy produced and injected into the network will be regulated according to the contract with the new supplier.

Finally, the company has called on businesses to confirm with it the number of employees, the annual turnover and the units/meters in use, so that the transition process to the open market can be carried out without obstacles.
