Turkish security forces today arrested 18 suspects in separate counter-terrorism operations targeting the ISIS terrorist group (DEAS) in eastern Turkey, authorities said, Anadolu reports.
In the southeastern province of Sanliurfa, eight suspects were arrested for distributing social media posts praising ISIS, the governor’s office said in a statement.
The operation was carried out under the coordination of the Office of Chief Public Prosecutor following the discovery of propaganda content linked to the terrorist group.
Meanwhile in the eastern province of Agri, police detained 10 suspects during simultaneous raids targeting suspected ISIS activities. Security forces during searches at the addresses seized banned publications and digital materials.
Investigations continue as part of Turkey’s wider efforts to prevent the terrorist organization’s recruitment, propaganda and organizational activities following the deadly attack in Yalova that killed three police officers on December 29.
