Turkey has stated that it attaches importance to stability in Venezuela, as well as the peace and well-being of the Venezuelan people, reports Anadolu

“In order to prevent the current situation from leading to unfavorable consequences for regional and international security, we call on all parties to act with restraint”, said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkey, after the US attacks on Venezuelan territory and reports of the capture of the country’s president, Nicolas Maduro.

Emphasizing that Ankara is following “closely” the latest developments in Venezuela, the ministry expressed Turkey’s readiness to help resolve the crisis there within the framework of international law.

“In this process, our embassy in Caracas continues uninterrupted communication and the necessary coordination with our citizens in the country,” the Turkish ministry said.

Earlier, the Venezuelan government accused the US of attacks on civilian and military facilities in several states of the country and declared a state of national emergency.

Later, US President Donald Trump confirmed on his Truth Social platform that the US had carried out a “large-scale attack”, adding that Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife had been captured and fled the country.

The attacks came after months of tensions with the US, which accused Maduro of involvement in drug trafficking. Maduro has denied that he is the leader of the cartel and has expressed his willingness to hold talks.
