A ballistic munition fired by Iran towards Turkish airspace was intercepted and neutralized by NATO air and missile defense units in the Eastern Mediterranean today, the Turkish Ministry of National Defense said, reports Anadolu.
The ministry said on Turkish social media platform NSosyal that the projectile, detected after passing through Iraq and Syria, was successfully intercepted by air defenses. The fragments that fell in the Dortyol district of southern Hatay province belonged to the interceptor used to destroy the threat, the ministry added.
“Our determination and ability to ensure the security of our country and our citizens are at the highest level,” the ministry said, noting that there were no casualties.
“While Turkey supports regional stability and peace, it is fully capable of protecting the security of its territory and citizens against any threat, regardless of origin,” she added.
The ministry emphasized that all necessary measures to protect Turkish land and airspace will be taken decisively and without hesitation. “We reserve the right to respond to any hostile act directed at our country,” she said, warning all parties against actions that could escalate the regional conflict.
Turkey’s Communications Director Burhanettin Duran confirmed on the account on the Turkish platform NSosyal that Ankara’s determination and ability to defend the country remains at the highest level.
“Every step to protect the land and our airspace will be taken without hesitation,” said Duran.
