Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Wednesday that peace talks with Russia are currently on hold due to the conflict in Iran, reports Anadolu.
In a video statement posted on Telegram, Zelenskyy said that Kiev will be ready to resume negotiations as soon as conditions allow.
“At the moment, due to the situation with Iran, the necessary signals for a tripartite meeting have not yet come. But as soon as the situation of security and the broader political context allow us to resume tripartite diplomatic work, Ukraine is ready for this,” he said.
Zelenskyy also thanked the Ukrainian intelligence service, the presidential office and other agencies involved in the efforts to arrange further prisoner of war exchanges.
“We are working to bring all our people home from Russian captivity good,” he said.
Russia and Ukraine have held three rounds of US-brokered peace talks this year, two in Abu Dhabi and one in Geneva.
Last week, Zelenskyy indicated the next round could take place in early March, again in the United Arab Emirates. However, the surprise US-Israeli attack on Iran on February 28 disrupted many plans.
