Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said today that he has asked US President Donald Trump to consider providing security guarantees to Kiev for a period of 30 to 50 years, reports Anadolu.
According to Zelenskyy, Trump said he would “consider” the proposal. However, the Ukrainian president said that under current agreements, Kiev will “definitely” receive security guarantees from the US for a period of 15 years. He said that Ukraine expects the next round of talks with the US to take place in Kiev in January.
“(Head of the National Defense and Security Council of Ukraine) Rustem Umerov is already coordinating this process with partners. After the meeting, negotiations between European and Ukrainian leaders, harmonization of key documents and preparation of contacts between Trump and European leaders are planned,” Zeleneskyy said at the press conference with the US president. According to him, Trump discussed his 20-point peace plan with Russian President Vladimir Putin and said the Russian president is ready for peace. “I don’t want to go into details now. But, I told the president that for us it is important that words match deeds,” said the Ukrainian president.
Asked about the possible lifting of martial law in Ukraine, Zelenskyy said that it can be lifted only after “the appearance of real security guarantees”, including the deployment of foreign troops.
