28 years since the Lybenic massacre

Today marks 28 years since, on May 25, 1998, Serbian forces entered Lybeniq in Peja, killing and massacring nine residents of Lybeniq, and later also the other men of the village.

The genocide committed in this settlement against the innocent Albanian population on May 25, 1998 and on April 1 and 7, 1999, is one of the biggest crimes committed by the forces. police, military and the first Serbian military in Kosovo.

The head of the League of Historians of Kosovo “Ali Hadri” branch in Deçan, Shkodran Imeraj, has said some time ago that local and international justice have failed to pursue and punish the perpetrators of the massacres that were carried out in Lybenić during the years 1998-1999.

According to Imeraj, the genocide committed by the military, police and paramilitary forces Serbs against the Albanian residents of Lybeniq, is the biggest genocide committed against the Albanian population in the history of the village of Lybeniq.
