Turkey has conveyed its concern to the Iranian envoy, who was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, regarding a ballistic munition launched by Iran and directed towards Turkish airspace, reports Anadolu.
According to diplomatic sources, Ambassador Mohammad Hassan Habibollahzadeh was informed of Turkey’s concern and strong protest regarding the incident.
Turkish Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hakan Fidan, also forwarded them. Ankara’s concern to his Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araghchi, regarding the incident.
Speaking on the phone, according to sources from the Turkish ministry, Fidan told his Iranian counterpart that any step that could lead to the escalation of the conflict should be avoided.
Earlier, the Turkish Ministry of National Defense said that the ballistic munition launched today by Iran and aimed at Turkish airspace was intercepted and neutralized by NATO air and missile defense units in the Eastern Mediterranean.
The ministry said the projectile, detected after passing through Iraq and Syria, was successfully neutralized by air defenses.
