Tensions between Iran and Israel have risen sharply following a strong statement from senior Iranian military officials, who warned of a direct and extensive response in the event of an attack on the Iranian diplomatic mission in Beirut. The warning was made public by the spokesman of the Iranian Armed Forces, Brigadier General Abolfazl Shekarchi, and was reported by the semi-official Tasnim News Agency.
According to Shekarchi, any military action by the Israel Defense Forces against the Iranian embassy in the Lebanese capital will be considered an open act of aggression and will be followed by harsh reciprocal measures. He emphasized that the Iranian response will not be limited to the region, but may extend to Israeli embassies in different countries of the world.
“Any attack on our diplomatic representation will be met with a decisive response. Israeli targets, including their embassies, will be targeted if such an act occurs,” he was quoted as saying. This statement is seen as a clear signal of possible escalation, at a time when the security situation in the Middle East remains fragile.
Embassies and diplomatic missions are protected by international conventions, including the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, which prohibits any attack or violation of them. Such a clash would constitute not only a serious violation of international law, but also a risk of spreading the conflict beyond regional borders.
The latest statement comes against the background of escalating rhetoric and numerous incidents involving actors associated with both sides in the region. Beirut, as a key point where different geopolitical interests intersect, is considered particularly sensitive to any military or diplomatic developments.
