A series of incidents in local elections in Serbia

Monday, March 30th 2026

Local elections were held in ten municipalities and cities in Serbia on Sunday. Voting centers are open from 7:00 am and close at 8:00 pm. The newspaper “Danas” reports on great tensions and numerous incidents on election day.

Most incidents were reported in Kula. It is reported that dozens of masked people arrived near a polling station. The police quickly appeared there, but a number of citizens also gathered. Masked men were reported to have attacked several students.

Large turnouts are reported in these local elections.

The Project on Reporting on Organized Crime and Corruption, a non-governmental organization that supports investigative journalism, reported on Saturday how Aleksandar Vučić’s ruling party, SNS, has turned small municipal races into heavily funded national battlegrounds and that “ultra-American ‘ghost’ monitors have been deployed right”. /time
