The suspect in the shooting incident outside the White House Correspondents’ Dinner last night told authorities he was targeting officials in the administration of US President Donald Trump, reports Anadolu.
Citing law enforcement sources, CBS News reported that the suspect, identified as Cole Allen, made the statement after his arrest.
The sources said the suspect did not specifically mention President Trump as a target, but referred generically to “administration officials”.
Authorities have not yet publicly confirmed the suspect’s motive, while the investigation continues.
The incident occurred at the Washington Hilton Hotel, where the annual dinner was being held, leading to the evacuation of President Trump, first lady Melania Trump, Vice President JD Vance and other senior officials.
