A magnitude 3.6 earthquake struck large parts of eastern Norway this morning, the strongest to hit the region in more than 20 years, reports Anadolu.
According to the Norwegian Seismic Matrix (NORSAR), tremors were widely felt in the capital Oslo area and surrounding regions, with the epicenter recorded near Jessheim, northeast of Norway. capital.
Authorities said there were no immediate reports of injuries or significant damage.
“People have reported strong shaking, but we don’t expect any damage,” said Berit Marie Storheim of the Norwegian National Seismic Network.
Police said they received many calls from residents who felt the quake, but confirmed that no serious incidents were reported. Emergency services remained on standby as assessments continued.
NORSAR initially rated the earthquake at magnitude 3.3 before revising it upwards. The agency said the last strongest earthquake in the region occurred in 2004.
Although widely felt, this was not unprecedented. The largest earthquake recorded in the Oslo region, in 1904, had a magnitude of 5.4.
