A swarm of at least 10,000 bees has attracted attention in central Paris after settling on a bicycle parked outside a metro station near the Louvre museum.
According to local authorities, bees swarmed under the bike’s saddle shortly after it was tied to the railings of the Palais Royal–Musée du Louvre station on Saturday afternoon.
Due to the unusual situation, the entrance to the metro was closed. temporarily, while a beekeeper was called to the scene to collect the swarm.
A witness, Volkan Tanaci, said that the sight was extraordinary and that there was most likely a queen bee in the center of the swarm. “It was certainly an unusual place, right next to the subway entrance,” Tanaci said.
Meanwhile, the bike’s owner publicized the incident on social media, saying that “grandpa’s old bike” had been parked only half an hour before the bees arrived.
