Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski spoke about the draft law on gambling, saying that the new legal solutions aim to establish order and restrictions on this activity, stressing that the state must protect itself from the negative consequences of the uncontrolled expansion of casinos and gambling facilities.

“We have a feeling that the country resembled Las Vegas. At every step we saw shops advertising this type of gambling with neon signs lit, mainly casino and gambling, and you have a quick loan office next to them. It is a system that we have to fix and it is a system that, unfortunately, is the cause of many family disasters, there will be no more such attention-grabbing ads. In some places, even small settlements had a few casinos, literally nothing.
With this law, we are aware of the consequences, perhaps also of the fiscal effect, but we appreciate that order and discipline must be established in gambling and that the country cannot resemble Las Vegas”, says Mickoski.
Regarding reactions that the law was adopted in a non-transparent and “mafia” way and that this meant opening the door to the black market and the loss of thousands of jobs, Mickoski said that the law was ultra-transparent. we protect the interests of the state and the citizens. I don’t think there will be illegal gambling deals and I don’t think jobs will be lost. Macedonian citizens will have a different image and a different perception.
