China vowed to take a “tough” stance against the illegal use of drone flight control systems, warning that such actions pose a risk to public and national security, state media reported, Anadolu reported.

The Ministry of Public Security said police would continue cracking down on such actions in accordance with the law, Beijing-based agency Xinhua News reported.

The ministry warned that the private provision of services to remove no-fly zone restrictions and height restrictions for drone owners can constitute a criminal offence.

It also published details of 10 cases in which individuals used technical means to help others illegally circumvent restrictions on drones, including height limits and no-fly zones, or manipulated factory-set payload parameters to help drone flights unauthorized use of drones for “illegal profit”.

All suspects involved in the cases are subject to mandatory criminal action by the police, while further investigations are ongoing.

According to experts, drones with lifted height restrictions can enter civil aviation corridors and potentially cause collisions with serious consequences, while drones with disabled geographical restrictions can enter restricted areas such as military control, risking the leakage of state secrets.
