Croatia’s parliament approved today the amendments to the Law on Trade, with which powers are given to local units to regulate the sale of alcoholic beverages in stores, as well as prohibiting the sale of alcohol and energy drinks to persons under 18 years of age, reports Anadolu.
The amendments to the Law on Trade were unanimously approved by the deputies.
According to the amendments, local self-government units will can decide themselves on the schedule of the sale of alcoholic beverages in their territory, through representative bodies.
These decisions will be taken for the protection of public health, public order and peace, cultural heritage or the environment.
The law also strengthens the protection of minors, forcing sellers not to sell alcohol or energy drinks if they estimate that the buyer is under 18 years old, unless he proves his age with an identification document.
This rule it will also apply to automatic cash registers.
It is also provided that during the online sale of alcohol, merchants must provide age verification through the state system “e-Gradani”.
