Germany today expressed “concern” about Israel’s plans to expand control over Gaza, saying it would complicate humanitarian aid efforts for Palestinians living in the war-torn territory, reports Anadolu.
“We view these announcements and reports about them with concern. If this were to happen, it would complicate our efforts, especially the provision of further life-saving humanitarian aid, especially to the population,” the Foreign Ministry spokeswoman said. of Germany, Kathrin Deschauer to reporters in Berlin.
“The position of the federal government and the foreign minister is that a partition of Gaza cannot be permanent and must not be cemented. And these announcements, which we have now heard through reports, if they were to materialize, would not be in line with what we as the federal government strongly support: the 20-point plan and the prospect of peace resulting from it,” said it.
Deschauer also called on “the parties to the conflict to adhere to this 20-point plan”.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu acknowledged on Thursday that Israel currently controls 60 percent of the Gaza Strip and signaled plans to further expand control to 70 percent.
According to Israel’s Channel 12, Netanyahu said during a seminar in the Jordan Valley: “We currently control 60 percent of the Gaza Strip and my directives are to move towards controlling 70 percent.”
He did not give details of how such plans would be implemented.
The Israeli army announced in October last year that it controlled 53 percent of the Gaza Strip after repositioning itself in the so-called “Yellow Line” under the first phase of the president’s plan to the USA, Donald Trump to end the war in Gaza.
