US President Donald Trump has announced that he will meet with officials at the White House to make a “final decision” on the proposed agreement to end the war with Iran, reports Anadolu.
In a post on his platform Truth Social, Trump described several elements that he said are part of the proposal, including Iran’s commitment to never develop nuclear weapons and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. for free commercial navigation.
“I will now meet in the Situation Room to make a final decision,” Trump wrote.
The US president said Iran would be forced to remove any remaining mines in this strategic sea route, while the US would lift the naval blockade on ships entering or leaving Iranian ports.
Trump also said the highly enriched nuclear material buried in the struck facilities from US attacks last year will be extracted and destroyed by the US in cooperation with Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency.
“There will be no exchange of money, until further notice,” he added, referring to Iranian funds frozen in the American financial system.
“Other matters, of lesser importance, have been agreed upon,” he stressed.
The statements came a day after US officials said they were very close to an agreement to extend the 60-day ceasefire and a framework for negotiations on Tehran’s nuclear program.
Yesterday, US Vice President JD Vance said Washington and Tehran were “very close” to signing a memorandum of understanding, although he warned that some issues remain unresolved.
According to details reported by Axios and confirmed to Anadolu by US sources, the draft memorandum would keep the Strait of Hormuz open to commercial shipping, require Iran to remove mines and engage Tehran in negotiations over uranium enrichment and its stockpile.
The report also says the deal would include discussions on sanctions relief and the release of frozen Iranian funds as part of broader nuclear talks.
