Thousands of citizens, among them KLA veterans and their supporters from all over Albania and Kosovo, gathered peacefully this Friday in Skënderbej Square to protest against the Special Court in The Hague.

The protest held on October 17 in the heart of the Albanian capital received wide attention from the international media, which reported on the protesters’ calls for justice and opposition to, according to them, “the judgments of unfair” to the former leaders of the Kosovo Liberation Army.

“Thousands of people protest in the capital of Albania against the EU-backed court that prosecutes veterans of the Kosovo war”, wrote the Associated Press.

Through banners, calls and public speeches, the protesters expressed their unwavering support for the former leaders of the KLA who are facing justice in The Hague, considering the process as one-sided and politically motivated.

On the other hand, the trial against The trial of four former KLA superiors began in 2023, three years after they were arrested and sent to custody at the Kosovo court in The Hague.

Now, more than two years later, the trial against them is coming to an end, since last month the defense of the former president of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi, called the witnesses

The former US Assistant Secretary of State, James Rubin, the legal advisor of the Kosovo delegation during the negotiations in Rambuje in 1999, Paul Williams, and the former British diplomat, John Stewart Duncan, testified in defense in September.

They all said in their testimonies that Thaçi had no authority over the KLA.

The Special Court expects the trial to be completed by the end of December. to the former leaders of the KLA.
