The Special Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Kosovo has filed an indictment against B.T. for the criminal offense of “War crimes against the civilian population”.
According to the indictment, B.T., in the capacity of warden of Pristina Prison and the parallel one in Lipjan, in collaboration with other guards, during the period 1998-1999, acting intentionally, violated the rules of international law during the armed conflict, namely, the time of the war in Kosovo.
“There is a well-founded suspicion that, in a systematic way, they had mistreated the Albanian prisoners, torturing them in an inhumane way with various tools, such as rubber sticks, metal rods, kicks and punches until they were beaten, causing them physical injuries and psychological violence.
The defendant, as an accomplice, had left the prisoners without food for days, had seriously threatened their lives and, as a result of the continuous beatings and inhumane treatment, they have suffered a state of constant anxiety and fear. These actions are sanctioned according to local laws, customs of war, International Geneva Conventions and Additional Protocols,” the announcement states.
