A senior Iranian military official said renewed fighting between the US and Iran is “possible,” according to Iran’s Fars news agency. The statement came after US President Donald Trump said he was “dissatisfied” with Iran’s new proposal to end the war.
Iran submitted the proposal to Pakistan’s mediator on Friday evening, Iranian state media reported, without giving details of its content.
“At this moment I am not satisfied with what they are offering,” the US president said. He did not elaborate on what he saw as the shortcomings of the latest proposal, but blamed the stalled talks on “tremendous disagreements” within Iran’s leadership.
Since the ceasefire took effect on April 8, efforts have been made for peace talks between the US and Iran in Pakistan.
Mohammad Jafar Asadi, a senior figure in the Iranian military’s central command, said a conflict of resumed between Iran and the United States is possible.
“Evidence has shown that the United States is not sticking to any promises or agreements,” he added.
“The actions and statements of American officials are mainly oriented towards the media, firstly to prevent the fall of oil prices and secondly to get out of the predicament they have created themselves. The armed forces are fully prepared for any new adventure and folly American,” said Asadi.
