Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has stated that his army has crossed the Litani River in southern Lebanon, signaling a move beyond the previously announced Israeli ground offensive area, reports Anadolu.

“We attacked Beirut now and yesterday we attacked Tire, while our forces crossed the Litani River. We are hitting them and we will hit them hard,” Netanyahu said, referring to Hezbollah.

Litani is Lebanon’s main river, which originates west of the city of Baalbek and flows through the Bekaa Valley in eastern Lebanon before reaching the south of the country.

Netanyahu spoke during a seminar in the Jordan Valley. According to Israeli broadcaster Channel 14, he also claimed that the Israeli military will eliminate Hezbollah’s drone threat.

Israel continues daily violations of the cease-fire agreement announced on April 17, which was extended until early July.

Hezbollah has responded to these violations with missile and drone attacks targeting Israeli troops and military vehicles in southern Lebanon and northern Lebanon. Israel.

In recent weeks, Hezbollah drones have raised growing concerns in Israel, after Netanyahu described them as a “major threat” due to their difficulty in detection.

Since March 2, according to official figures, Israel has carried out a large-scale offensive in Lebanon that has killed 3,269 people and wounded 9,840 others, in addition to displacing more than 1 million. people.

Israel has occupied areas in southern Lebanon, some of them for decades and others since the war of 2023-2024. During the current offensive, Israel has advanced about 10 kilometers inside southern Lebanese territory.
