The Swiss resort bar where 40 people died in a deadly New Year’s fire had not undergone an annual inspection for the past 5 years despite regulations, local authorities said today, Anadolu reports.

Le Constellation bar had no safety checks, investigations or audits for 5 years before the fire that killed 40 people and injured 116 others, local authorities said at a media conference in Crans-Montana.

Speaking to reporters, Crans-Montana mayor Nicolas Feraud said all the xixa candles blamed for the fire have been banned from the premises.

He said it was up to the ski bar managers to know if they were within the regulations.
