The Parliament of Albania has approved in today’s session the decrees of President Bajram Begaj for the latest changes in the government cabinet, Anadolu reports.

The changes that were proposed a few days ago by the Prime Minister and the leader of the ruling party, the Socialist Party, Edi Rama, were voted on amid tensions and debates, as during the voting time the opposition MPs blocked the floor.

Albana Koçiu has been appointed to the post. of the Deputy Prime Minister, replacing Belinda Balluku, who was dismissed from office, including from the position of Minister of Infrastructure and Energy.

Diplomat Ferit Hoxha has been appointed Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, a position held until now by Elisa Spiropali.

Besfort Lamallari, who previously held the position of Minister of Justice.

Toni Gogu has been appointed to the post of Minister of Justice and Erjona Ismaili has been appointed as Minister for Relations with the Parliament.

Enea Karakaçi will be the new Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, while Ermal Nufi has been appointed Minister of Defense, a position previously held by Pirro Vengu.

The Parliament has also approved the dismissal decrees for Ministers Balluku, Spiropali and Vengu, who will no longer be part of the government cabinet. After the swearing-in ceremony in the Presidency of Albania, the new ministers will officially take office.

The session was also involved in debates and tensions, as the deputies of the largest opposition party, the Democratic Party, blocked the floor during the voting of the decrees of President Begaj, not participating in the voting process.

The opposition has repeatedly requested the inclusion in the order of plenary sessions of the Special Prosecutor’s request against Corruption and Organized Crime (SPAK) on the granting of authorization “for the arrest/deprivation of liberty” to Balluk, which was also suspended by the court. Balluku was charged with the criminal offense of “violation of the equality of participants in public tenders or auctions”.

At the beginning of the parliamentary session, a minute of silence was held in honor of the Epic of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA).
