Thirteen-year-old Akram al-Fayoumi, who lost his left arm and right leg in an Israeli attack on Gaza, is going on with his life thanks to his passion for roller skating and horse riding, reports Anadolu.

Akram, who continues to roller skate with a prosthetic leg placed in Egypt, but finds it peaceful, dreams of a new prosthesis and a horse.

In Gaza, where tens of thousands of people have lost their lives in attacks by the Israeli army since October 2023, according to United Nations (UN) data, more than 6,600 people who have suffered the loss of limbs need prosthetic support and rehabilitation.

Akram, one of thousands of disabled children in Gaza, described the moment of the attack that led to the loss of an arm and a leg:

“I injured at Abdulfattah Hammoude school. I was going to get my skates to play with my friends when suddenly a rocket hit and I ended up in Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital”. The Palestinian child, who said he could not understand what happened, continued: “What is our crime, our sin in this war? Why was I injured like this and my hand and leg were cut off? I felt like I had nothing left to play with.” Akram, who still has shrapnel in his head and chest, said he needs comprehensive treatment Gaza.

The Palestinian child said: “My dream is to have new dentures and a horse”.

Despite everything, Akram, who has not given up his skates, said that skating is his greatest joy.

The Palestinian child, who said he is talented in skating and riding, emphasized that his skates, which he uses passionately, are his joy. alone.

Akram’s father, Sherif al-Fayoumi, also explained that his son was seriously injured in the attack but did not receive the necessary treatment.

“Akram was injured at the Abdulfattah Hammouda School on Jaffa Street. Thank God he is alive, but one hand and one leg were cut off. He also still has shrapnel in his head and chest. My son went to Egypt about a year and a half ago and stayed there for more than a year, but he didn’t get full treatment for his head and leg injuries.” Fayoumi stated that his son suffered a lot, saying: “From the beginning, I didn’t want to operate on him here because the child was in a lot of pain and I didn’t want to reopen his wounds. I thought he would get better treatment abroad.” Emphasizing his son’s need for a prosthetic limb, Fayoumi said: “He was fitted with a prosthesis in Egypt, but he never used it, he never felt comfortable with it.”

The Palestinian father, stating that his son’s passion for skating and riding continues, said:

“He has been riding horses since he was 7 years old; he can ride and travel by himself. He learned to skate at the beginning of the war by watching a child at school and became the best child in the region in this direction, even teaching his cousins and friends”. The father explained that Akram was cleaning his skates on the day of the attack, saying: “He and his friends were getting ready to go out and skate. They were all martyred with him, thank God Akram is still alive his that keeps us alive. I dream of seeing my son in the best places. May God heal him, protect him and make him even better than before.
