After the massive protest of Albanian students in Skopje, the debate about the Albanian language also moved to the Parliament of North Macedonia. During a session on women’s rights in the Commission for Equal Opportunities, the Albanian deputy of the Alliance for Albanians in the opposition, Ilire Dauti, blocked the podium, as the materials were not offered in the Albanian language, but only in the Macedonian language.

She clashed with the vice president of the commission. and asked for an interruption of the meeting, for non-respect of the law on the use of languages.

“Shame. These people have not come here to do politics. Let’s continue with the session. You have no right to talk about procedure. You have used the right”, said the vice-president of the commission.

After a few minutes of tension in the hall, a break was taken to calm the situation, but the session restarted with a debate.

“I don’t want to.” to manipulate these people who have come here in this public discussion to reach conclusions that would help all of us a lot, and not just to gain political points”, she said.

On Monday, about 400 Albanian law students at the universities of North Macedonia protested, demanding that the jurisprudence exam be held in the Albanian language as well, as the law there allows.
