Donald Trump has not agreed to arm Kurdish forces in hopes of inspiring a popular uprising in Iran, says Caroline Leavitt, the White House press secretary.
Any such report is “completely false and should not be written,” she adds, foreign media reports.
Leavitt says, however, that the US president “spoke with Kurdish leaders about our base that we have in Northern Iraq”. Foreign media have previously reported that Washington was preparing to support Kurdish forces for a ground operation in Iran “in the coming days”.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth today also appeared to distance himself from this report, saying that none of the US objectives “are based on arming support to any particular force”.
