Three people are arrested for smuggling migrants in two separate cases

Kosovo Police has announced that on May 13, two separate cases were initiated for the criminal offense of “migrant smuggling”, where three suspects were arrested.

The first case was registered in the area of Rugova, where the officers of the Border Surveillance Police Station in Rahovec stopped a vehicle driven by a Kosovar citizen with the initials B.K.

During the control of the vehicle, the police found 12 people who, after verification, turned out to be citizens of Sudan. According to the authorities, the migrants possessed asylum-seeking documents issued by Greece and were allegedly being transported towards the border with Montenegro.

By order of the prosecutor, the suspect was arrested and taken into custody, while the migrants were transferred to the Detention Center for Immigrants in Magure.

Meanwhile, the second case occurred in the evening in the village of Seqishte.

According to the police, the unit border crossing in Hani i Elezit, during the implementation of the operational plan “Illegal migration”, two people were observed by drone illegally crossing the border from the village of Bllacë into the territory of Kosovo.

The authorities have announced that a vehicle was waiting near the border crossing, which is suspected to transport the migrants further. After the police intervention, three Kosovar citizens with the initials Q.C., P.L. were arrested. and A.B., as well as a citizen of Bangladesh.

By the prosecutor’s decision, proceedings were initiated against the suspects for the criminal offense of “migrant smuggling”, while they were sent to detention for 48 hours.

The Bangladeshi citizen was treated by the migration unit and then sent to the Migrant Shelter Center in Vranidoll.

As part of the investigations, the police temporarily seized a vehicle with local license plates and four mobile phones.
