Most people think that a burn is just a wound on the skin.
In fact, when the burn is large and severe, the human body reacts as if it has been hit by a serious internal disease.
▪️ What happens to the body after large burns?
The skin loses its ability to retain fluids and protect the body
The person quickly loses water and important salts
The heart, lungs and kidneys begin to stress
The risk of infection increases greatly
Shock or organ failure may occur
So, the burn does not only affect the skin, but the whole organism.
▪️ Why is the treatment of burns long and difficult?
Patients with severe burns:
They should be hospitalized in intensive care
They are often operated several times to remove the damaged skin
Skin grafts or protective medical materials can be placed
They need constant monitoring, antibiotics and specialized care
▪️ Danger from smoke
If the burn comes from a closed fire, many people inhale smoke and toxic substances.
This damages the lungs, creates difficulty in breathing and increases the risk of complications.
