The container ship CMA CGM Kribi, owned by the French company CMA CGM, successfully passed through the Strait of Hormuz, which is the first recorded passage of a European ship since the beginning of the conflict in the Middle East.
We recall that Iran took control of this key sea route during the conflict with the United States and Israel and partially blocked traffic. It is one of the world’s most important energy corridors, through which about a fifth of global oil and liquid gas is transported under normal circumstances, and its blockade caused serious market disruptions.
According to available information, Iran currently only allows the passage of ships it considers ‘friendly’ and on predetermined routes, often with additional conditions. At the same time, Tehran is threatening to attack ships bound to the US and Israel, which further increases the risk to international maritime traffic.
The ship departed from Dubai, moved along the Iranian coast around the islands of Qeshm and Larak and arrived near the Omani capital of Muscat the next morning. Although it was almost fully loaded, it was a smaller container ship compared to the large Chinese vessels that dominate this route, Euronews reports. /tesheshi.com/
