The midfielder of Spain, Rodri, has spoken about the ambitions of “La Roja” on the eve of the 2026 World Cup, stressing that his team should not focus on the favorite labels, but on the performances on the field.

The winner of the Golden Ball 2024 recalled that even before the triumph in the European Championship 2024, the Spanish national team was not considered the favorite by the majority of experts.

“Favorites are shown on the field. Even in Europe we were not considered favorites and in the end we managed to win the tournament. Labels are not very important”, stated Rodri, reports “Gazeta Express”.

The Manchester City midfielder said that Spain is aware of the high expectations, but that the World Cup is a long and difficult competition.

“We are happy and excited to participate in this World Cup. It’s a pleasure when they consider you among the favorites, but we have to prove it on the field,” he added.

Rodri also spoke about his physical condition, stressing that he feels fresh for the tournament after a positive season in personal terms, although he admitted that he has not had the same pace of matches as in 2024.

Spain enters the 2026 World Cup as the reigning European champions and is considered one of the main candidates for to lift the trophy at the end of the tournament.
