Qatar: The solution to the Strait of Hormuz crisis “must be regional”

Qatar said on Tuesday that any solution to the crisis surrounding the Strait of Hormuz “must be regional”, with the participation of coastal states and those dependent on the waterway, reports Anadolu.

“Everyone should work towards a lasting solution to this issue,” Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesman Majed Al-Ansari said in statements broadcast by Qatar’s Al Jazeera television.

“The security of The Strait of Hormuz should not be threatened by any party and there should be no preconditions for its reopening,” he added.

“The language of threats is unacceptable and we deal with all threats in a way that ensures the security of our country,” said the spokesman.

He emphasized that there has been “no problem” in the management of the Strait of Hormuz, noting that the consequences of its closure go beyond the markets of energy.

The spokesman for Qatar’s Foreign Ministry said the ceasefire between Iran and the US “must continue”, adding that the focus is now on consolidating the ceasefire.

Calling for the resolution of crises through dialogue, he expressed Doha’s support for Lebanon’s efforts to de-escalate and end the Israeli war there.

Regional hostilities have escalated since The US and Israel launched joint strikes against Iran on February 28, killing and wounding thousands of people.

Tehran launched retaliatory strikes against Israel, Iraq, Jordan and Gulf countries that host US military assets and restricted passage through the Strait of Hormuz before declaring a two-week ceasefire last week.

The US and Iran held rare direct talks in Islamabad on Pakistan on Saturday with the aim of ending their conflict, but the talks ended on Sunday morning without an agreement.
