Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has stated that Russia sees “positively” the possibility of resuming peace talks with Ukraine in Istanbul.
Speaking at the 5th Forum of Diplomacy in Antalya, Lavrov said that although this issue is not currently a top priority for Moscow, Russia remains open to negotiations if the other side is ready.
“We have always assumed that if the partner is ready, we are too.” ready,” he said, adding that Russia has never imposed negotiations.
Lavrov also recalled previous talks with Ukraine in Istanbul in April 2022, as well as three rounds of negotiations during 2025, which led to significant prisoner exchanges and the drafting of preliminary documents for a possible agreement.
He stressed that Russia does not shy away from dialogue, but expects to have a concrete proposal from the Ukrainian side, including the time, place and agenda of the negotiations.
During the past year, Russia and Ukraine held three rounds of talks in Istanbul, while earlier this year there were also meetings mediated by the US in Abu Dhabi and Geneva. Since then, the negotiation process has stalled, with both sides blaming a shift in US focus towards Iran. /message
