Pakistan expects “positive development soon” regarding the Strait of Hormuz after a phone call by Army Chief General Asim Munir with US President Donald Trump.

Intensified diplomatic efforts by Islamabad come to ease the way for the second round of talks between the US and Iran, expected soon in the Pakistani capital.

“We expect positive development soon,” government sources said. Pakistani spokesman for Anatolia, referring to a phone call between General Munir and President Trump during which they discussed the Pakistani mediation process and the US blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.

According to Pakistani sources, Trump said he would “consider the advice” of General Munir, who told the US president that the blockade of the strait by US forces remains an “obstacle” in a possible second round of talks with Iran.

The waterway has been nearly closed since the US and Israel launched their attacks on Iran on February 28.

Tehran declared the strait open on Friday but closed it a day later after Trump announced the blockade of Iranian ports would continue, and on Sunday US forces detained an Iranian cargo ship after they opened fire and boarded it.

However, Trump on Sunday announced that US representatives will fly to Islamabad for talks with the Iranians.

Tehran has not yet officially announced its decision, but has demanded the lifting of the US blockade of Iranian ports.

Earlier, Pakistani sources said that the Iranians are expected to arrive in Islamabad tomorrow.
