Gender-based violence, attacks and threats against journalists, discrimination and racism, LGBT+ rights, education and religious freedom are identified as setbacks for Kosovo in the report on the state of human rights compiled by Amnesty International.
The former deputy, Visar Korenica, said that discrimination against girls who decide to wear the headscarf has been ongoing in Kosovo society.
“I think these reports are continuous, such a rejection in the sense of discrimination, whether in terms of limiting the education of girls who put on the headscarf, or in other cases that prevent them from attending regular classes, has existed before. Such reports show us that we must take measures and not prevent children from having their exclusive right to attend school,” he said.
Furthermore, he said that Kosovo as a Muslim-majority state freedom of expression of belief and according to him these measures should be removed.
“There is no other country like Kosovo with a Muslim majority, where so many measures have been taken in such a strict manner to limit the freedom of belief, the expression of freedom of belief and the right of children to enjoy education. The state has put in place inadequate measures regarding the control of clothing in school institutions and I think that these strict restrictions should be removed”, said Korenica in Klan Kosova.
