Sveçla: Justice for Banjska does not end here, maximum sentences for the 45 involved

Friday, April 24th 2026

The Minister of Internal Affairs, Xhelal Sveçla, has reacted after the court’s decision in the case of the terrorist attack in Banjska, where two of the accused were sentenced to life imprisonment, while the third was sentenced to 30 years in prison.

Through a post on Facebook, Sveçla described this decision as an important moment for justice in the Republic of Kosovo, stressing that the maximum sentences should apply to all those involved in this case, including members of a wider network of 45 identified persons.

“The attack of September 24, 2023 was not an isolated act, but an operation organized with state support from Serbia, with the aim of violating the constitutional order and annexing part of the territory of Kosovo”, said the minister.

He emphasized that the response of this attack by the Republic of Kosovo stopped a dangerous scenario for separation, adding that the facts and evidence document the direct involvement of Serbia.

Svechla has also announced that the criminal and paramilitary structures in the north have been dismantled and that the constitutional order has been protected.

He has called on Serbia to be held responsible for its political, financial and logistical role in this aggression.

The minister has emphasized that this decision cannot bring back the hero Afrim Bunjaku, but is a step towards justice for his sacrifice and the pain that remains for his family, colleagues and citizens.

“Justice for Banjska does not end here. It will only be completed when all those responsible are brought to justice, with Milan Radoiciqin at the head”, wrote Sveçla.
