White House: Trump met with national security team to discuss Iran proposal

Monday, April 27th 2026

US President Donald Trump met on Monday with his national security team to discuss Iran’s latest proposal, the White House announced, reports Anadolu.

“I can confirm that the president met with his national security team this morning … the proposal was discussed,” White House spokeswoman Caroline Leavitt told reporters during a briefing.

“I don’t want to get ahead of the president or his national security team. What I will do is I reiterate is that the president’s red lines on Iran have become very, very clear, not only to the American public, but to them as well,” she added.

Her statements come amid growing diplomatic efforts to revive talks between Washington and Tehran after weeks of fighting and failed negotiations.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said earlier that Tehran is “serious” about reaching a deal with Washington, but stressed that any deal must prevent Iran from developing a nuclear weapon.

“We need to make sure that any deal reached … clearly prevents them from racing toward a nuclear weapon at any point,” he said.

Rubio’s remarks came amid reports that Iran has proposed reopening the Strait of Hormuz in exchange for lifting the U.S. blockade and ending the war, while negotiations on broad over its nuclear program to be postponed to a later stage.

Iran and the US held talks in Islamabad on April 11 but failed to reach an agreement to end the war that began on February 28.

The talks came after a two-week ceasefire brokered by Pakistan on April 8, which was later extended by US President Donald Trump.

Trump canceled a planned trip to Pakistan this weekend from special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.

Efforts are under way to organize another round of talks, although the main points of contention include the Strait of Hormuz, the US blockade of Iranian ports and the future of Iran’s nuclear program.

About 20 percent of global oil supplies pass through the strait each day, while heightened uncertainty has raised oil prices and increased transportation and logistics costs. insurance.
